Ever since I started my entrepreneurial journey over 4 years ago one piece of advice has stuck with me and I do my very best to remember this every time I consider joining new business groups and networks.
‘Embrace being the smallest in the room!’
Coming off the back of a 20 year corporate career where power is often seen as such a valuable trait, I initially felt vulnerable about becoming the smallest in the room again. I mean I had just turned 40 not 18!
In the vast ocean of business networking groups, it’s time we all embrace the times when we really are the smallest in the room. Don’t stress I am not being sizest here!
I simply mean that by you being in rooms that contain people who are all ahead of you in some way, shape or form this is where true growth originates.
It’s also just as critical to identify the wrong rooms/groups and we have all been there when we have left a session feeling like it was a complete waste of time. Don’t stick around those groups where there can never be a reciprocal exchange of value. Being the biggest in the room may massage your ego but it wont help you on your journey of growth.
Joining the right business networking groups can propel your growth, accelerate your learning, and up your game in ways you never imagined.
Here are our 7 key reasons why we feel you must embrace this concept.
As the smallest in the room, you have a front-row seat to a wealth of knowledge and experience. This learning environment allows you to quickly obtain valuable insights, best practices, and industry trends that can fast-track your success.
Expanding Your Horizons:
Surrounding yourself with entrepreneurs who are further along in their journey challenges your mindset and inspires you to think beyond your current boundaries. This exposure leads to breakthroughs and fresh perspectives that can elevate your business to new heights.
Access to Mentors and Role Models:
Within these networking groups, you gain access to potential mentors and role models who can guide and inspire you. Their wisdom and guidance can provide invaluable support as you navigate the complexities of entrepreneurship.
Collaboration and Partnerships:
Embrace collaboration with more established entrepreneurs, as it opens doors to mutually beneficial projects. Forming partnerships with bigger players can lead to new markets, customer bases, and distribution channels, driving growth and visibility for your business.
Accountability and Motivation:
Being surrounded by accomplished entrepreneurs creates an environment of healthy competition and accountability. The drive to keep pace with others in the room fuels your determination to achieve remarkable results.
Embracing a Growth Mindset:
In the company of more advanced entrepreneurs, you naturally adopt a growth mindset. Embracing this mindset fosters resilience, adaptability, and a willingness to learn from setbacks, ultimately propelling your journey towards success.
Testing and Refining Ideas:
Networking groups provide a safe space to test and refine your ideas. Share your concepts, business models, and strategies with a diverse audience of entrepreneurs who can offer constructive feedback. This invaluable input helps you fine-tune your ideas, identify blind spots, and create more robust plans for execution.
Embrace being the smallest in the room within business networking groups, as it presents you with a world of new opportunities. By surrounding yourself with people who are ahead of you in terms of skills, knowledge and experience, you will accelerate your learning and journey of growth.
So if you are the biggest in your room politely step out of it, say your thanks and goodbyes.
Now go and become the acorn again……..your oak tree awaits!
